Dear EIAS Friends,
As we reach the midpoint of 2026, we are pleased to reconnect with our readers, partners and friends by sharing an overview of the European Institute for Asian Studies’ activities over the past six months. While this edition marks our first newsletter since the end of 2025, it reflects a period of sustained engagement, new partnerships and continued research across Europe and Asia.
Over the past months, we have organised a diverse range of conferences, policy dialogues and high-level roundtables. These included discussions on sustainable connectivity and the Middle Corridor, clean energy cooperation in the Greater Caspian Region, EU–Australia cooperation on critical minerals and free trade, Nepal–EU digital innovation, Asia–Europe perspectives on the transition from globalisation to economic security, Indo-Pacific security and resilience, as well as dialogues on China’s economic transformation and Europe–China relations. Together, these events have brought together policymakers, diplomats, academics, industry leaders and civil society representatives to exchange ideas and identify pathways for closer Asia–Europe cooperation.
We are pleased to present a new collection of publications reflecting the breadth of EIAS research. Our latest policy briefs explore topics including EU–China talent mobility, an Indo-Pacific Plus strategy for the European Union, Chinese wind turbine manufacturers and Europe’s energy transition, the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism and EU–China trade, AI-enabled healthcare cooperation between the EU and Singapore, European cable security in the Pacific, and EU–India cooperation on critical minerals and indigenous rights. We also continue to publish timely commentary on issues ranging from ASEAN enlargement and AI governance to NATO’s Indo-Pacific engagement, China’s Fifteenth Five-Year Plan, and the future of China–EU SME cooperation. We additionally look forward to publishing a forthcoming briefing paper examining corporate social responsibility in the EU–India context.
As we look ahead to the remainder of 2026, we remain optimistic about the opportunities for deeper dialogue and constructive cooperation between Europe and Asia.
