Dear Sir/Madam/X,
The European Institute for Asian Studies (EIAS) had the pleasure of hosting the Expert Roundtable Discussion on Clean Energy in the Greater Caspian Region. This in-person event took place on the 17th of March 2026 from 16:30 to 18:30 at the European Institute for Asian Studies, Rue de la Loi 26, 10th floor, B-1040 Brussels, and was followed by a networking reception.
The roundtable explored how the Greater Caspian region can accelerate its clean energy transition while deepening practical cooperation with Europe on energy security and decarbonisation. With vast renewable potential and growing interest in cross-border connectivity, the region is increasingly central to discussions on new energy corridors. It spans across topics such as renewable power trade, grid modernisation, and the scaling of low-carbon and renewable hydrogen value chains.
The discussion was opened with a keynote intervention by Aysel Yagubova, Executive Director of the Clean Energy Center for the ECO region (CECECO), a joint ECO-UNIDO initiative headquartered in Baku and part of UNIDO’s Global Network of Regional Sustainable Energy Centers. Ms. Yagubova’s intervention set the scene on regional priorities, ongoing initiatives, and opportunities for international partnership, particularly around advancing renewable energy and energy efficiency through regional cooperation, capacity-building, and investment-ready projects.
Bringing together policymakers, energy experts, industry representatives, international organisations, and other key stakeholders from Europe and the Greater Caspian region, this expert roundtable provided a platform for exchanging perspectives on the region’s clean energy transition and identifying opportunities for deeper cross-regional cooperation. Through discussions on renewable energy, cross-border connectivity, energy security, and investment, the event aimed to foster practical partnerships and promote collaborative approaches to advancing decarbonisation and sustainable energy development across the Greater Caspian region and Europe.
