EIAS Newsletter December 2025

READ OUR LATEST NEWSLETTER - As 2025 draws to a close, we would like to thank our readers and partners for their continued engagement throughout the year. In this December edition of our EIAS Newsletter, we are pleased to share our latest publications and reports on past events as we look ahead to 2026. The past months have been marked by continued geopolitical uncertainty and strategic realignments across regions, keeping policymakers and researchers alike closely engaged. As we enter the final weeks of the year, these dynamics underscore the importance of sustained dialogue, analysis, and cooperation in the months to come.

We would like to highlight several recent events organised over the past weeks. These include the EU–China Briefing Seminar on Global Governance in a Multipolar Era, which explored great power dynamics and their implications for global governance, as well as a dedicated discussion on the Middle Corridor, focusing on its current realities and future prospects. In addition, we co-organised the Embassy of Malaysia and EIAS ASEAN Forum 2025, assessing the outcomes of the 47th ASEAN Summit and the future of ASEAN–EU relations beyond 2025. Our event activities also extended to Southeast Asia–Europe relations more broadly, notably through a seminar on countering corruption and promoting good governance in Southeast Asia and the EU. We also hosted an EU – Kazakhstan roundtable.

Beyond the events, we are pleased to share a range of recent publications. These include a new briefing paper: EU-China Trade: Facilitating Bilateral Trade Through a Joint Fiat-Backed StablecoinThe Trans-Caspian Corridor: Financial Risk Mitigation for Unlocking EU Connectivity with the Greater Caspian Region and Central Asia, which focuses on managing financial risks to enhance EU connectivity; as well as several policy briefs including Chinese Banks in the EU: Structures, Functions and Regulatory Challenges, which examines the role and regulatory environment of Chinese financial institutions in the EU; and The Trans-Caspian Corridor: Understanding the Financial Framework for Attracting and Derisking Foreign Capital, exploring investment frameworks and financial instruments.

Finally, we are delighted to highlight a series of recent op-eds engaging with key regional and strategic debates. These include:

We wish you a wonderful winter break and happy holidays and look forward to welcoming you at EIAS in 2026.
