Past Event: Briefing Seminar on the Korean Peninsula
The European Institute for Asian Studies had the pleasure of organising an in-person Briefing Seminar on the Korean Peninsula, which took place on Thursday, 6 April 2023 from 16:00 to 17:30 at EIAS, Rue de la Loi 26, 10th floor, B-1040 Brussels, Belgium.
The Korean peninsula has long existed as a hotspot of regional and geopolitical tensions. As peace talks remain at an impasse and tensions on the peninsula have recently increased, concerns amongst the international community have been on the rise. Coming at a time where geopolitical conflicts are intensifying and security issues are becoming intertwined, EIAS hosted a discussion to assess the most recent developments on the Korean Peninsula, exploring China’s position on the subject, as well as potential avenues to defuse the situation and possible future engagement by international actors like the EU.
On the occasion of his visit to Brussels, H.E. Liu Xiaoming, Special Representative of the Chinese Government for the Korean Peninsula, shared his perspectives on how China views the situation on the Korean Peninsula, as well as on how to resolve the issue and defuse the situation on the ground.
