Dear Sir/Madam/X,
The European Institute for Asian Studies (EIAS) and the European Parliament in ASEAN had the pleasure of organising a Working Luncheon Event on the occasion of the working visit of a delegation of Southeast Asian Parliamentarians against Corruption (SEAPAC).
This Roundtable Discussion and exchange of views with the SEAPAC delegation on “Countering Corruption and Good Governance: Regional and Parliamentary Insights from South East Asia and the EU“ took place on Tuesday, 9 December 2025, from 13:00 to 14:30, at the EIAS office, Rue de la Loi 26, B-1040 Brussels, Belgium. The discussion gathered Members of SEAPAC from Indonesia, Malaysia and Cambodia, together with representatives of EU institutions, policymakers, civil society actors, academics, and experts in governance, integrity, and anti-corruption reform.
As Southeast Asia moves forward with its ASEAN Community Vision 2045 and its focus on good governance and integrity, this exchange visit offered a timely opportunity to exchange views on existing practices in ASEAN and the EU, particularly in light of the EU’s own recent reforms. The occasion offered a platform for open exchange on past experiences, challenges, opportunities and best practices in combating corruption. Both regions brought distinct perspectives that can enrich the discussion and support ongoing reforms.
The session explored key elements of anti-corruption practices, good governance, including institutional design, policy development, civil-society oversight, the promotion of ethical standards in public administration, and how regional bodies and parliamentary networks can contribute to increased transparency and accountability.
Bringing together parliamentarians, experts, practitioners and civil society representatives from both the EU and Southeast Asia, this roundtable discussion aimed to foster mutual learning opportunities and identify best practices and common approaches that can advance integrity, trust, and effective governance across both regions.
