Karsten holds Master’s degrees in China Studies from the Catholic University of Leuven and History, Art and Culture of Asia from Leiden University. His research interests cover Chinese political thinking and ideology in the fields of International Relations, domestic and foreign cultural policy. Having spent a year in Taiwan, he has also delivered work on Taiwanese colonial history and contemporary literature.
