Taiwan Chair

The European Institute for Asian Studies (EIAS), is for 2016 hosting the ‘Taiwan Chair’. The rationale behind this is that East Asia is home to around 25% of the global population, is home to some of the world’s most important economic drivers, and has vast innovative prowess. Nonetheless, East Asia is also the theatre in which challenging political and security games unfold. The ‘Taiwan Chair’ is to conduct pragmatic and meaningful research, foster academic exchanges, and identify new impact potential in the field of cross-strait relations. Moreover, the Chair is to conduct research on the potential role of the EU as balancing and constructive partner for the region.

Overall, the East Asia Centre with a ‘Taiwan Chair’ will aim to actively contribute to the development of research in the field Taiwan studies, East Asia relations, and the regional security architecture.
