World Dialogue on China Studies – Brussels Forum
The World Conference on China Studies Belgium Forum took place at the European Institute for Asian Studies (EIAS) in Brussels from Wednesday 19 to Thursday 20 June 2024. The forum was co-organized by the Shanghai Academy of Social Science (SASS), the European Institute for Asian Studies and Cátedra China. Under the theme “China Studies and the European Understanding of China”, the forum consisted of one main forum in the morning and three parallel sub-forums taking place in the afternoon of 20 June 2024. The sub-forums respectively focused on:
(1) Europe China People-to-People Exchange and Dialogue – Mechanisms and Pathways;
(2) Europe-China Economic and Trade Cooperation – Resilience and Potential;
(3) European China Studies – Status quo and Prospects for the Future.
The Forum included almost 60 Chinese and European speakers from various fields and disciplines and in total more than 120 participants, addressing critical issues about Europe-China economic relations, people-to-people exchanges, as well as the evolving landscape of European China studies. The Forum was also reported on several media outlets. The Forum sought to anticipate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, charting a course towards a more dynamic and collaborative future in European China studies and cross-cultural dialogue. The working languages of the forum were Chinese and English, with simultaneous interpretation available on-site.
