PAST EVENT: EU-ASEAN Relations After the EU Elections
This EIAS Closed-door Roundtable Discussion took place at EIAS on 23 July 2024. As the new EU leadership assumes its mandate, there is a timely opportunity to advance the EU-ASEAN strategic partnership and address shared challenges in an increasingly interconnected world. While structural differences exist between the EU and ASEAN, the relationship has evolved significantly over time. Yet, there is a need for reciprocal engagement, with both sides acknowledging the importance of strategic partnerships and the role of cultural differences in shaping future interactions.
Mr Antoine Ripoll, Minister-Counsellor for Parliamentary Affairs at the EU Delegation in Jakarta joined us for the occasion to kickstart the discussion by sharing his views and insights on the relations between the EU and ASEAN from the perspective of his unique experiences being posted at the EU Delegation in Jakarta. After his introduction the floor was opened for an insightful discussion on the current state of affairs and future of the EU-ASEAN partnership, as well as priorities for the upcoming legislature.
